Funded childcare in Nelson

We’ll confirm funded places at Cooper Hall before it opens. In Nelson, working parents can get up to 30 funded hours a week from the term after their child turns 9 months until they start school, every 3- and 4-year-old can have 15 hours, and 2-year-olds from families getting extra support can have 15 hours through Lancashire County Council.

How to get funded childcare in Nelson

For children from 9 months until they start school. Apply on GOV.UK (opens in a new tab) from when your child is 23 weeks old. You get an 11-digit code to give us, and you reconfirm it every 3 months.

2-year-olds with extra support: 15 hours

If you get support such as Universal Credit within the income limit, apply to Lancashire County Council (opens in a new tab). For help, call Lancashire’s Family Information Service on 0300 123 6712.

Every 3- and 4-year-old: 15 hours

Whatever you earn or whether you work. There’s nothing to apply for online: the nursery claims the hours for you when you register.

Funded hours start the term after your child reaches the qualifying age. To start in September, January or April, apply by 31 August, 31 December or 31 March. Last checked September 2026 against GOV.UK and council guidance.
